Tara Feinstein is grappling with the idea of having her Bat Mitzvah- the coming of age ceremony for Jewish girls, but at the same time she’s afraid that it would mean she would lose her Indian roots. ![]() My mom is mixed and her parents are of two different religions, so I've been interested in reading about characters who are mixed for a while now, so I was happy to discover this book. I think another reason why I was curious about this book is because of Tara being of Jewish and Indian-Hindu ethnicity. While this book doesn't fall into either category, I do like the fact that this is a middle-grade novel with a person of colour as its main character. Regular visitors to The Streetlight Reader know that I’m an advocate for diversity in Young Adult and New Adult fiction. As I read the synopsis I was even more excited to read it. I first saw MBBM on Netgalley and the title is what drew me to the book at first. ![]() I think poor communication with the people closest to us can lead to terrible misunderstandings. ![]() Final Verdict: a great cover for a heartwarming book. Plus the girl on the cover is adorable too. I really like the illustrations and the colour scheme of the cover.
